Keiser's two published state lists disagree in places, and neither one promises admission. The licensure disclosures guide lays them side by side; get the Graduate School's answer in writing before you apply.
Licenses and practice law in Texas
Texas joined the Nurse Licensure Compact in 2018 yet has not passed the APRN Compact, so the NP license you would seek after graduating comes from the Texas Board of Nursing alone.
AANP files Texas under restricted practice. A Texas NP practices through physician delegation and supervision, maintains written physician protocols for an entire career, and meets setting limits when prescribing Schedule II medication. Because Keiser takes MDs and DOs as FNP preceptors as well as NPs, the delegating physician in a Texas clinic is a second person worth asking.
Applicants living outside Florida also owe Keiser written proof that Texas will allow the rotations and, later, license them as NPs, and Keiser's 2023 policy manual cautions that practicum hours logged outside Florida may fall short for licensure in some states. Why the Texas approval rule is aimed at other schools
Before an out-of-state nursing school runs clinical learning in Texas, the BON must approve it, and SARA participation does not excuse that step. The Board's guideline for these schools (3.1.3, most recently revised in May 2026) attaches the duty to tracks leading to a first nursing license: vocational, diploma, associate, bachelor's and entry-level master's. RN to BSN study and graduate APRN education fall outside it.
The Board's roster of approved out-of-state schools belongs to that pre-licensure world. Its standards for APRN programs it approves (22 TAC 219.10) still expect a written school, preceptor and agency agreement, the job Keiser's affiliation agreement does for each site.
Texas metros and systems to search
Four Texas metro areas top 2.5 million people each in the Census Bureau's 2025 estimates: greater Dallas-Fort Worth, greater Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Systems working there include Houston Methodist, Texas Health Resources, Baylor Scott & White Health, UT Southwestern Medical Center and, in San Antonio, University Health, while the state's Department of State Health Services runs public health. Treat them as places to look, not Keiser partners; Keiser clears every preceptor and site you propose.
Texas preceptor incentives point elsewhere. Its tuition exemption for clinical preceptors (Education Code 54.356) rewards RNs who precept undergraduates at public Texas colleges, and grants from the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program go to Texas schools, not to individuals. Keiser's preceptors volunteer, so your pitch is the chance to teach; Keiser's preceptor requirements set who qualifies.
Two trips to Fort Lauderdale and an eight-week clock
Keiser wants clinical planning under way roughly three months before each course (see the lead-time guide), and each practicum fits inside one eight-week term. Texas students also travel to Fort Lauderdale twice for residencies: a Friday-to-Sunday stretch in Advanced Assessment and a Saturday-Sunday pair in the closing Integration Practicum, with travel and lodging on the student. Flag that weekend to your final-term preceptor early.

Questions Keiser students ask
Must the Texas BON approve Keiser before my FNP clinicals start?
The research behind this guide found no Board approval step for this case: Guideline 3.1.3 confines the out-of-state approval rule to pre-licensure tracks, so graduate APRN study is not covered. Keiser's own steps still apply in full, from preceptor approval to the signed affiliation agreement. Ask the Graduate School to confirm this still holds when you apply.
Can a Texas physician precept me in Keiser's FNP?
Yes, once Keiser approves. FNPs with a master's degree are Keiser's first choice, but MDs and DOs qualify, as do a limited number of other NPs. The clinician needs an unencumbered, active license, at least twelve months of experience and a role at the site, and must not be your supervisor at work. Keiser's Program Director signs off on each one.
Would my preceptor get Texas's preceptor tuition exemption?
Not as the rule reads. Texas Education Code 54.356 ties that exemption to RN preceptors of undergraduate students headed for a first RN license at public Texas colleges, so NP precepting for an out-of-state graduate school sits outside it. Keiser lists no preceptor payment either; the people who precept its students do so as volunteers.
Is a clinical site in Louisiana an option from East Texas?
Ask Keiser before planning one. Keiser's November 2025 FNP disclosure says the program does not meet Louisiana's requirements, the Graduate School FAQ restricts Louisiana too, and Louisiana's board expects its own approval at least six months ahead. Keeping every site on the Texas side is the cleaner route.
