The two Keiser FNP residencies, and planning your practicums around them
Keiser's MSN FNP runs online, but it brings you to Fort Lauderdale twice: three days, Friday to Sunday, during the Advanced Assessment course, and two days, Saturday and Sunday, during the final Integration Practicum. Both are in person, both are degree requirements in the 2026-27 Graduate Catalog, and the second shares a term with your heaviest clinical load.

The two weekends at a glance
Keiser's FNP page says there are 2 onsite residencies "scheduled at specified times in Fort Lauderdale, Florida", and the catalog describes each as on-campus instruction over an intensive weekend. One opens the clinical half of the program and the other closes it.

Keiser's public pages give no calendar dates for either weekend. Course faculty confirm them for your term, and it pays to ask as soon as you register, because both trips need travel booked and the second has to fit around a preceptor's schedule. Asking early also leaves time to arrange cover at work and at home.
Residency one: the assessment weekend
The first residency belongs to NUR671, the advanced health assessment course. Keiser builds simulation and an OSCE into this course before clinicals begin, and NUR671 needs a B or better before NUR602A can open, so the three days in Fort Lauderdale come at the last checkpoint before your first practicum. Use the weekend's practical side as well: the simulation and OSCE show which assessment skills to sharpen before a preceptor watches you with real patients.
Timing matters for the search, too. Keiser asks FNP students to begin clinical planning about three months before a practicum starts, so by the weekend you spend on campus for NUR671, the hunt for your first adult preceptor should already be well along. Residency two: the closing weekend
The second residency falls inside the final Integration Practicum, over a Saturday and Sunday. NUR691, the didactic course taken alongside it, includes a summative evaluation in clinically simulated environments.
This weekend lands in your busiest clinical term. The catalog gives NUR691A 180 precepted hours and the program page 150, both packed into eight weeks, so two days away, plus travel, come out of a tight schedule. The Integration Practicum guide works through that term's hours, and the practicum sequence guide shows where it sits among the five. Because your final preceptor has to agree to your absence that weekend, get the residency dates before you ask anyone to take you for the last term. The minimum evaluation rating also peaks in this term, so coming back from Fort Lauderdale behind on hours is a poor position to be in.
Planning practicums around both weekends
- Get the dates first.Ask course faculty for the residency dates as soon as you register for
NUR671and again forNUR691, before booking travel or clinic days. - Tell the final preceptor on day one.The Fort Lauderdale weekend belongs in the first conversation, next to the hour target and the clinical days you propose.
- Keep travel days off the clinic calendar.The first residency starts on a Friday and the second on a Saturday, so the day before each is usually a travel day for anyone living outside South Florida.
- Front-load the final term.Bank extra site hours in the weeks before the residency so the weekend away never leaves you short at week 8.
- Put it in writing.Show the residency dates in the plan for clinical course completion that goes to course faculty, so the schedule they see is the one you can keep.
What the residencies cost you in time and travel
The catalog lists a one-time Residency Fee for the FNP, with the amount in its fee schedule, and students cover their own travel and lodging. Keiser's Graduate School FAQ says residencies are completed in person, so leave any remote option out of your planning.
For students outside Florida, that means two trips to Fort Lauderdale over the program, each tied to a course whose term you cannot move. For students in Florida, it may still mean a long drive and a night or two away. Either way, count the residency days as spoken for, and plan clinical hours, work shifts and family commitments around them. How other Keiser nursing programs handle residencies
The two-weekend pattern is specific to the FNP. Keiser's MSN Women's Health NP has three on-campus intensive weekends, in NUR671, NUR612 and NUR614, and attendance counts toward the grade; the WHNP program guide has the details. The generalist MSN has one required residency.
The post-master's DNP holds a single two-day doctoral residency at Keiser's Flagship campus, completed before ADP902, as the DNP guide explains. If you are still weighing programs, count these trips alongside the clinical hours and the practicum courses. The shared NUR671 course can make the FNP and WHNP residency rules look alike on a quick read. For an FNP student the pattern is simple: one weekend in NUR671, one in the final Integration Practicum, both in Fort Lauderdale.

Do residency days count toward my FNP clinical hours?
The catalog lists the residencies and the precepted clinical hours as separate FNP degree requirements, and precepted hours are direct patient care at an approved site. Keiser's public pages give no sign that a residency weekend adds to your hour total, so plan your site hours in full and let course faculty confirm anything different.
Is there a fee for the Keiser FNP residency?
Yes. The 2026-27 Graduate Catalog lists a one-time Residency Fee for the FNP program, and the amount appears in its fee schedule. Travel to Fort Lauderdale and lodging are the student's own costs, so budget for two trips, one during NUR671 and one during the final Integration Practicum.
Are FNP residencies held at Keiser's Flagship campus?
Keiser's FNP page puts both FNP residencies in Fort Lauderdale. The Flagship campus is where Keiser holds the DNP's two-day doctoral residency, a requirement of a different program. If a course announcement for your term names another location, follow course faculty, since they set the details each term.
Will a residency weekend clash with my practicum?
The first residency comes in NUR671, before practicums begin, so it only touches your preceptor search. The second falls inside the Integration Practicum itself, so your final preceptor needs the dates when you first agree a schedule, and the lost weekend should be covered by extra site hours earlier in the term.
