Rhode Island nurses in Keiser's online FNP
Keiser's November 2025 disclosure says its FNP meets Rhode Island's educational requirements, and the Graduate School FAQ puts no restriction on the state. The research found no Rhode Island Board step for out-of-state programs either. What remains is practical: a compact market, one metro area that spills into Massachusetts, and two trips to Fort Lauderdale.

What Rhode Island's rules say about outside programs
Rhode Island's nursing rules, filed as 216-RICR-40-05-3, concentrate on approving schools inside the state. No clause the research located asks a school elsewhere to clear its students with the Board first, so Keiser has no Rhode Island roster to appear on.
One provision is worth knowing. Approved in-state schools must prove, through their contracts with clinical agencies, that they participate in a central registry the state uses for clinical placements. The rule is silent on schools from elsewhere. If a site brings up the registry, ask how it handles a Florida-based program's student, and tell Keiser's Clinical Coordinator.
Your own homework comes from Keiser's 2023 policy manual, which cautions that practicum hours done outside Florida may not satisfy every state's board. Confirm Rhode Island will accept them; the out-of-state FNP guide has the detail.
Licensing: back in the compact
On Keiser's side, the NP programs expect an active, unrestricted Florida RN license, and a license valid in Rhode Island for clinicals in the state. Rhode Island applicants also furnish written verification that the state allows the training and a later NP license. The Florida license page explains why.
Compact membership resumed on January 1, 2024, and qualified residents licensed since then hold multistate RN licenses, handy if a practicum lands just over the state line. The APRN Compact has no Rhode Island enactment, so an NP license afterward comes straight from the state. AANP lists Rhode Island as full practice, meaning NPs answer to the nursing board alone.

Searching in and around Providence
With a single metro area that crosses into Massachusetts, most Rhode Island searches start in and around Providence. Brown University Health is the largest system; South County Health, CharterCARE and Care New England also run hospitals and practices. Picture them as places where practices sit, not as Keiser partners. The research found no Rhode Island preceptor incentive.
In a small market, specialty courses deserve the earliest start. NUR604A needs a pediatric preceptor and NUR605A a women's health one, each drawn from a narrower pool than family practice.
Borders matter here more than in most states. Massachusetts meets on Keiser's disclosure, so a site across that line is workable with a license covering it. Connecticut carries 'does not meet', so keep western-edge searches inside Rhode Island.
Two trips to Florida
Twice during the FNP you leave Rhode Island for Fort Lauderdale, in person: once for a three-day weekend tied to Advanced Assessment, and once for two days within the Integration Practicum. The WHNP asks for three such weekends. Questions Keiser students ask
Does Rhode Island's Board need to approve Keiser before my clinicals?
Nothing in the research says so. Rhode Island's nursing education rules deal with approving the state's own schools and set no step for programs elsewhere that place students at Rhode Island sites. If a site mentions the central placement registry, ask how it applies to you.
Can my clinicals take place in Massachusetts or Connecticut?
Massachusetts is a 'meets' state on Keiser's FNP disclosure, so a site there can work once you hold a license covering Massachusetts and Keiser clears the site. Connecticut is a 'does not meet' state on the same disclosure, which makes Rhode Island or Massachusetts the better choices.
Is Rhode Island on either Keiser restriction list?
No. Rhode Island is a 'meets' state in the November 2025 FNP disclosure, and the Graduate School FAQ leaves it out of the MSN, FNP and DNP restrictions. The documents disagree about other states, so a quick confirmation from the Graduate School before you apply is still worth having.
Will I need a physician agreement as a new NP in Rhode Island?
AANP classifies Rhode Island as full practice, so NPs are licensed and overseen by the nursing board without a required physician agreement. Your NP license would be issued by Rhode Island itself, because the state has not enacted the APRN Compact.
