Nevada and Keiser: a "meets" that needs a second look
On Keiser's November 2025 FNP licensure disclosure, Nevada reads "meets." The Graduate School FAQ tells a different story, listing Nevada among its MSN, FNP and DNP restrictions, and Nevada's own board sides with caution: an online program needs its approval before teaching clinicals in the state, and Keiser was absent from the board's September 2026 list. Where Keiser's documents part ways on Nevada
Nevada belongs to a small group the FAQ restricts even though the FNP disclosure calls it "meets"; the rest are DC, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina and North Dakota. The WHNP disclosure treats Nevada the same way as the FNP one. Neither document says which prevails, so the out-of-state guide treats each mismatch as a question to take to Keiser.
Keiser's admission terms apply either way: a Florida RN license with no restrictions, a license for the state holding your clinical hours, and written word from your home state that it permits the rotations and a later NP license. The Nevada board's approval rule
Nevada Administrative Code 632.703 covers any nursing program that runs part of its instruction inside the state. The school files the board's report form, shows accreditation or approval and compliance with Nevada's nursing statutes and regulations, and sends in a yearly school report. Internet-based and other nontraditional programs may teach no clinicals in Nevada without the board's approval first, and their faculty working there carry Nevada licenses. Pre-licensure, post-licensure and graduate programs are not treated separately.
On the board's list dated September 1, 2026, every out-of-state school approved for clinical-only operation in Nevada is a pre-licensure ADN or BSN program. No graduate NP program appears, and Keiser is not listed.
A "meets" line on Keiser's disclosure is not Nevada board approval. Ask Keiser how it handles Nevada before you plan practicums there.
Licensing and practice in Nevada
Nevada stays outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a multistate license issued elsewhere does not cover practice there. The board has also ruled, in a practice decision, that treating a patient who is physically in Nevada requires Nevada licensure, hands-on student clinical work included. Precepted hours in Nevada begin with a Nevada RN license.
A 2005 decision sets the ground rules for precepting: faculty stay in charge of every clinical experience and can be reached by telephone, each preceptor works on site with no more than a pair of students, and the program orients its preceptors and supplies written objectives.
AANP ranks Nevada full practice with a single brake: for an NP's first two years or 2,000 hours of practice, Schedule II prescriptions require a protocol a physician has approved. The APRN Compact is not enacted, and research found no state incentive for preceptors.
Health systems, cities and other Keiser routes
Large providers include Sunrise Health System, Renown Health, The Valley Health System, Dignity Health (hospitals in both Henderson and Las Vegas) and UMC, Southern Nevada's academic medical center. Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas holds most residents, with Reno and Carson City to the north, and the Division of Public and Behavioral Health leads public health. They show the landscape; none is presented here as a Keiser partner.
Keiser's DNP confers no license and wants an RN license from where you live, but Nevada sits on an FAQ list whose heading names the DNP, so ask whether it applies. The RN to BSN is on neither list; because Nevada's rule does not separate program types, confirm with Keiser that a Nevada setting works for its 45-hour clinical.
Among the neighbors, Utah reads "meets" but has an approval rule of its own, California, Arizona and Oregon read "does not meet," and Idaho is on the FAQ list. The Utah and California guides go further.

Keiser's disclosure says Nevada meets. Why does the FAQ disagree?
Keiser has not explained it. The disclosure speaks to whether the curriculum meets Nevada's educational requirements; the FAQ is a separate list that restricts Nevada for the MSN, FNP and DNP. Nevada's board list does not show Keiser either, so ask the Graduate School which applies to you.
Do I need a Nevada nursing license for clinicals in Nevada?
Yes. Nevada sits outside the compact, and the board treats care of any patient in Nevada, including hands-on student clinical work, as requiring a Nevada license. Keiser separately asks for a license in whatever state hosts your clinical hours.
Has Nevada's board approved Keiser for clinicals?
Not according to the board's September 1, 2026 list of out-of-state schools allowed to hold only clinicals in Nevada, which names pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs and nothing at the graduate level. Keiser's Graduate School can tell you how it treats Nevada applicants.
What limits does Nevada put on preceptors?
Under the board's 2005 practice decision, one preceptor may take on no more than two students simultaneously and must be present at the site. Program faculty keep overall direction, can be reached by phone, and brief preceptors with an orientation and written objectives before the rotation.
