Keiser University's NP programs for Idaho residents
Idaho gets two answers from Keiser. The FNP licensure disclosure updated in November 2025 says the program meets Idaho's educational requirements, but the Graduate School FAQ names Idaho among its MSN, FNP and DNP state restrictions. Idaho's Board has no specific rule for out-of-state clinical placements and asks outside schools to contact it, so confirm your eligibility with Keiser in writing first.

Keiser's mixed signals on Idaho
On the FNP licensure disclosure, last revised November 2025, Idaho appears with the states where Keiser's program meets educational requirements. On the Graduate School FAQ, in the answer about which states currently restrict the MSN, FNP and DNP, Idaho appears again, this time as restricted. Neither page explains the gap.
Until the Graduate School tells you otherwise in writing, assume the FAQ restriction is live. Keiser's catalog separately asks applicants from outside Florida for a written statement from the home state confirming that clinical rotations and NP licensure after graduation are allowed, and for an Idaho nurse that means a question to the Board of Nursing. Keiser runs the MSN FNP, WHNP and DNP online through its Graduate School, with residencies in Florida, and offers the RN to BSN online.

Idaho Board of Nursing rules that touch out-of-state programs
Idaho's Board of Nursing works within the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses, or DOPL. The state's nursing rules and statute deal with approving programs offered in Idaho, and neither carves out a provision for clinical placements by schools based elsewhere. On the Board's page, the heading for out-of-state and online programs leads only to a DOPL email address for questions about requirements or approval.
What Idaho's rules and policy do say
- APRN work integral to a nationally accredited APRN curriculum is allowed for an enrolled student who is an RN licensed in Idaho or practicing there on compact privilege
- State law exempts students of approved programs from licensure for functions that are part of formal instruction
- Under the Board's 2024 education policy, a clinical preceptor must be licensed at the student's target level or higher
- The same policy wants an Idaho RN license from faculty teaching nursing courses and an Idaho APRN license from faculty leading APRN role and population courses
Whether that faculty policy reaches an online program based in Florida is a question for the Board and Keiser to settle.
Compact status, practice authority and Idaho's health systems
Compact membership dates to January 2018 in Idaho, which means an Idaho multistate license carries RN privileges into the other member states. AANP places Idaho among the full practice states.
Boise City leads the state's metros, with Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Coeur d'Alene smaller. Kootenai Health covers the Coeur d'Alene area, while St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus each run a major health system in the state. Treat them as examples of Idaho settings rather than Keiser partners. Research found no Idaho preceptor incentive.
If the NP route stays closed
Keiser's online RN to BSN is on neither Keiser list and is built for nurses licensed where they live; its 45 clinical hours in NUR4636 are done with a preceptor you line up. The DNP is on the FAQ's restriction list, so ask before counting on it. Idaho's neighbors Washington and Oregon appear on both Keiser lists, so moving clinicals across the state line is no shortcut. Let Keiser confirm eligibility for any program.

Can Idaho residents enroll in Keiser's online FNP?
Keiser's own sources split. The November 2025 FNP disclosure says the program meets Idaho's educational requirements, but the Graduate School FAQ lists Idaho as a restricted state for the MSN, FNP and DNP. Get the Graduate School's ruling on your case in writing before any application.
Will Idaho's Board sign off on Keiser before clinicals?
Idaho's approval rules are written for nursing programs delivered inside the state and say nothing specific about clinical placements by programs based elsewhere. The Board's page points schools outside Idaho to a DOPL email address for requirements or approval, so Keiser would raise the question with the Board directly.
What license covers APRN clinical hours in Idaho?
Idaho lets an enrolled student practice as an APRN within a nationally accredited APRN curriculum, provided the student is an RN currently licensed in Idaho or practicing there on compact privilege. Keiser's FNP and WHNP also require an active, unrestricted Florida RN license.
Who can precept me in Idaho?
Idaho's 2024 education policy wants every clinical preceptor licensed no lower than the role you are training for. Keiser prefers a master's-prepared FNP, accepts a limited number of other NPs as well as MDs and DOs, and asks that the preceptor have practiced at least one year.
