Keiser's FNP from Georgia: what the board expects and where to find a preceptor
If you live in Georgia, Keiser's own documents put you on solid ground: the November 2025 FNP disclosure counts Georgia as a meets state, and the Graduate School FAQ's restriction list skips it. Georgia's nursing board stays out of graduate program approval altogether, which moves the focus to who holds which license during your practicum.

Georgia's board: no program sign-off, three license checks
Georgia's nursing board answers to the Secretary of State's office, and post-licensure schooling, NP programs included, falls outside what it approves, so a Florida school needs no Georgia sign-off to put an MSN student in a Georgia clinic. (The board's note that no outside or online pre-licensure school has clinical approval there concerns entry-level programs, not Keiser's graduate ones.) Georgia checks licensure instead:
- You: a Georgia RN license, or a multistate one that a different compact state issued, while you train in Georgia for a school based elsewhere.
- Your preceptor and faculty: the same standard, whether they teach face to face or electronically.
- Your clinical instruction: for APRN programs, delivered by a nurse who holds Georgia APRN authorization.
Set that third point beside Keiser's list, which prefers master's-prepared FNPs but also takes MDs and DOs. If your best Georgia lead is a physician, clear it with Keiser and the Georgia board before building a term around it. Keiser's preceptor rules give the full list.
Practice limits, and why PTIP skips Keiser preceptors
AANP puts Georgia in its most limited tier, restricted practice: an NP needs a physician's delegation or supervision, and authority over Schedule II drugs is narrow. Expect the physician behind a Georgia practice to weigh in on hosting you.
Georgia does reward some preceptors. PTIP, its Preceptor Tax Incentive Program, gives a state tax credit to physicians, dentists, APRNs and PAs licensed in Georgia who train students in community settings without pay, revised and extended under HB 144 with registration every year from 2026. The catch is eligibility: only rotations for students in Georgia's own medical, dental, NP and PA programs count, so hosting a Keiser student earns nothing under it. Keiser's preceptors volunteer.
Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus
Atlanta dominates: the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro is many times the size of any other Georgia market, and it is home ground for Wellstar Health System, Piedmont Healthcare and Northside Hospital, along with Grady Health System and Emory Healthcare. Savannah, Augusta and Columbus carry their own metros, the last two reaching across state lines.
Those names illustrate where Georgia clinicians practice; none is a Keiser partner. Keiser approves each site and signs an affiliation agreement before hour one.
Because Keiser ties your license to wherever the practicum physically happens, border metros need care. South Carolina, on Augusta's far side, meets on Keiser's FNP disclosure; Alabama, across from Columbus, sits on its does-not-meet list. Keep a Columbus-area practicum in Georgia unless Keiser approves otherwise.
Keiser's conditions and the Fort Lauderdale trips
Every FNP applicant shows Keiser an unrestricted Florida RN license and a second license for the practicum state. Georgians also bring written proof that Georgia will allow the practicum and license them as NPs afterward, and Keiser's policy manual reminds students that an out-of-Florida clinical hour may not be accepted by every licensing board. Being next door helps with residencies. The first, three days long, belongs to the advanced assessment course; the second, a weekend, falls in the Integration Practicum. Both are in Fort Lauderdale and in person, and getting there is on you. Can Georgia residents take Keiser's online FNP?
Georgia clears both of Keiser's published screens: it is a 'meets' state on the November 2025 FNP disclosure and goes unnamed in the Graduate School FAQ's restrictions. Those screens contradict each other for other states, and Keiser alone admits students, so ask the Graduate School to confirm before you send an application.
Which licenses do I need for Keiser clinicals in Georgia?
Two sets of rules apply. Keiser's catalog asks for Florida's RN license, active and unrestricted, and the one for your practicum state. Georgia wants a resident training there for an outside school to hold its own RN license or a multistate license from a different compact state. Ask Keiser admissions how your licenses cover both.
Does Georgia need to approve Keiser before I start clinicals?
No. Graduate and APRN programs sit outside what the Georgia board approves, so Keiser files nothing with it for your placement. The Georgia checks concern people: your license, your preceptor's, and APRN-authorized clinical instruction. Keiser's own approval and affiliation agreement still have to be in place first.
What will restricted practice mean after I graduate?
Working as a Georgia NP means a physician delegates to or supervises you, and your Schedule II authority stays narrow, per AANP. It affects the jobs you consider after Keiser rather than the program, and it is worth weighing if you might later move to a full practice state.
