Keiser's FNP from South Carolina: licenses, rules and preceptors
South Carolina falls on the open side of Keiser's lists: the November 2025 FNP disclosure marks it as meeting requirements, and the Graduate School FAQ has no South Carolina restriction. The Board's out-of-state school rule targets NCLEX-track education, with not a word about NP programs.

Regulation 91-6 and who it reaches
South Carolina's out-of-state rule sits in Regulation 91-6. It governs schools headquartered elsewhere whose South Carolina clinicals train students toward their initial license; those schools get the Board's approval up front and meet the conditions in the table. Keiser's FNP and WHNP students hold RN licenses already, and nothing in the regulation speaks to NP or RN to BSN education, so South Carolina keeps no roster for Keiser to join.

Licenses and practice agreements
Two licenses sit behind a Keiser NP enrollment from South Carolina: the active, unrestricted Florida RN license required of every FNP and WHNP student, and one valid where your clinicals take place. Keiser also asks South Carolina applicants for written verification that the state permits the training and would license them as NPs later. AANP classes South Carolina as restricted. NPs carry out delegated acts under a written practice agreement with a physician, and controlled-substance prescribing comes with supply limits. Physicians can precept for Keiser too, though a master's-prepared FNP is its first choice, so ask physician-led practices about both.

Prisma Health and MUSC Health, the system of the Medical University of South Carolina, are the biggest names. McLeod Health, Lexington Health, which runs Lexington Medical Center, and Roper St. Francis Healthcare follow. Read them as places where practices exist, not as Keiser partners.
The Charlotte edge needs care. North Carolina appears on the restriction list in Keiser's Graduate School FAQ, and its Board wants to hear from graduate students who lack a North Carolina or multistate license, so keep those practicums on the South Carolina side. Georgia meets on Keiser's disclosure and requires no Board approval for APRN programs.
South Carolina's preceptor tax credit
South Carolina rewards unpaid physician, APRN and PA preceptors with a state income tax credit for each qualifying rotation, and a 2024 act kept it alive through tax year 2029. The statute ties every qualifying rotation to a student at a South Carolina public or independent school, which leaves out preceptors teaching a Keiser student. Your ask therefore rests on a well-matched course, a clear schedule and a complete file.
Driving or flying to Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is a long way from Greenville or Columbia, and some students go by car rather than plane. The FNP puts you there twice, in person: a three-day weekend during Advanced Assessment and a two-day weekend inside the Integration Practicum, while WHNP students make three trips. Driving adds road days on each side, so front-load hours and flag the second trip to your final preceptor early. The catalog carries a one-time residency fee; the residency guide covers timing.

Does South Carolina's Board need to approve Keiser's FNP clinicals?
Regulation 91-6 makes out-of-state schools get approval when their South Carolina clinicals lead students to a first license. It is silent on NP education, and Keiser's FNP students are licensed RNs already. Confirm your plan with Keiser's Graduate School before you apply.
I live near Charlotte. Can I do clinicals in North Carolina?
That is risky. North Carolina sits on the MSN, FNP and DNP restriction list in Keiser's Graduate School FAQ, and the North Carolina Board asks graduate students holding neither a North Carolina nor a multistate license to get in touch. Practicums on the South Carolina side avoid both issues.
Does South Carolina's preceptor tax credit cover a Keiser student?
No. The credit counts only rotations for students enrolled at South Carolina public or independent schools, and Keiser is a Florida university. Preceptors still take students for the teaching itself, so lead with your course, schedule and a finished Keiser file.
Do Keiser's restriction lists include South Carolina?
They do not. South Carolina shows as 'meets' on the FNP disclosure dated November 2025 and is absent from the Graduate School FAQ's list. Those two documents conflict for other states, North Carolina among them, so get the Graduate School's confirmation before you apply.
