The Colorado Board of Nursing aims its program-approval rule at schools training people toward an initial RN or LPN credential, so a Colorado practicum turns mostly on your licenses, Keiser's approvals and a preceptor within reach.

What the Colorado Board of Nursing regulates
Colorado's Board of Nursing works inside the Department of Regulatory Agencies, under its Division of Professions and Occupations. Rule 1.2 of its regulations treats a nursing education program as a basic course of study toward initial RN or LPN licensure, and nothing in it asks an out-of-state RN-BSN, graduate or APRN school for a filing or a sign-off before its students arrive. The board's own website would not load during research, so guidance posted there beyond the rules went unchecked.
Colorado also issues a student permit, but its audience is narrow: people from nontraditional programs based elsewhere, with no faculty-supervised clinicals, who need Colorado hours to qualify for a license. It is not a general placement permit. If you want certainty for your case, ask the board in writing.
Keiser layers its own check on top. Out-of-Florida applicants hand Keiser something in writing from their state saying the rotations are allowed and NP licensure will follow, and Keiser's graduate nursing policy manual notes separately that some states may not accept hours earned outside Florida. Full practice, with a prescribing condition
On AANP's map Colorado is a full practice state, though one condition is worth knowing before you graduate: to prescribe, a new NP attests to 750 hours of mentored practice, with a physician or an APRN as mentor under a written agreement. That comes after Keiser, in your first NP role.
Colorado belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact, but the separate APRN Compact has not passed there. Keiser's admission requirements pair an unrestricted Florida RN license with a second license covering your Colorado clinicals; if yours is a Colorado multistate license, ask admissions how Keiser reads it. Denver, Colorado Springs and the northern cities
The Denver-Aurora-Centennial metro holds most of Colorado's clinicians. UCHealth, Denver Health and HCA HealthONE operate there, CommonSpirit Health runs Colorado hospitals under the Centura name, and Utah-based Intermountain Health operates Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. Colorado Springs is the second metro, with Greeley and Fort Collins-Loveland further north.
Think of these systems as a sketch of where Colorado's primary care and specialty clinicians practice, not as places that take Keiser students. Each site you propose still goes through Keiser's preceptor approval and a signed affiliation agreement.
Near a state line, remember that Keiser wants a license wherever the clinicals happen. Wyoming and New Mexico both meet on Keiser's FNP disclosure, while Arizona is on its does-not-meet list.
Planning around Fort Lauderdale
The FNP's on-campus pieces are two: a three-day residency tied to the advanced health assessment course and a weekend residency tied to NUR691A, the capstone practicum, both at Keiser in Fort Lauderdale. Build the flights and hotel nights into your budget, and tell your Colorado preceptor about the second trip early, since it lands in your busiest clinical term. The residency page has the detail.

Questions Keiser students ask
Can a Colorado nurse enroll in Keiser's online FNP?
Yes, going by Keiser's published documents: Colorado is a 'meets' state on the November 2025 FNP disclosure and has no entry among the FAQ's MSN, FNP and DNP restrictions. Keiser still decides admission, and its lists do not agree about every state, so a short confirmation with the Graduate School belongs before your application.
Can my Colorado preceptor claim the state's preceptor tax credit?
It appears not. Colorado's Rural and Frontier Health Care Preceptor Tax Credit goes to unpaid preceptors working in shortage areas, but since HB22-1005 it is limited to students at accredited Colorado colleges and universities, and Keiser is a Florida university. Keiser lists no preceptor payment either; its preceptors are volunteers.
Does Colorado require a student permit for Keiser clinicals?
The permit exists for out-of-state nontraditional programs that have no faculty-supervised clinical component. Keiser's practicums run under clinical faculty who approve the arrangement and make a site visit each semester, so the permit's purpose looks different from your situation. Ask the Colorado board if you want that confirmed for your case.
Is the post-master's DNP an option from Colorado?
Keiser's DNP admits nurses holding an unrestricted RN license from the state they live in, and because the degree carries no licensure outcome, Keiser publishes no disclosure for it. Mentored practice hours and one brief doctoral residency on Keiser's Flagship campus are part of it. Ask Keiser about eligibility; the DNP page explains the structure.
