Keiser nursing programs for North Dakota nurses
North Dakota gets a split verdict. Keiser's November 2025 FNP licensure disclosure says the program meets the state's educational requirements, yet the Graduate School FAQ lists North Dakota among its MSN/FNP/DNP restrictions, and the Board of Nursing's roster of recognized distance programs lacked Keiser on September 25, 2026. Each Keiser program, seen from North Dakota
Keiser teaches its NP tracks online through the Graduate School, and the FNP adds two on-campus residencies in Fort Lauderdale. Applicants hold an active Florida RN license plus one for their clinical state, bring written word that their home state permits the rotations and later NP licensure, and find their own preceptor, whom Keiser approves under a signed affiliation agreement. Keiser alone decides who it admits from North Dakota, so confirm with Keiser before you commit to a start term.

Two Keiser documents, two answers
The FNP disclosure PDF, dated November 2025, groups North Dakota with the states where the program meets educational requirements. The Graduate School FAQ, answering a question about current MSN/FNP/DNP state restrictions, lists "N. Dakota" among thirteen jurisdictions. Keiser publishes no single roster of states it admits from, so neither document settles the matter alone.

NDBON recognition comes before any clinical hour
North Dakota asks distance programs to earn Board recognition before they send students into its facilities. The Board's definition covers programs that prepare students for APRN licensure, so an FNP practicum sits squarely inside it. The request is due 60 days ahead of any student activity, and graduate programs pay a yearly fee.
Recognition only opens the door. Every semester, before anyone starts, the program must report who is coming and what North Dakota or compact license each student holds, which facilities and courses are involved, who will precept and teach (with CVs and license proof), the signed affiliation agreements, and a statement from every facility that it has room.
Once the Board has written notice, state law lets students of a recognized out-of-state program train here, subject to site capacity. NDBON also asks for proof that the school holds NC-SARA membership or clearance from North Dakota's higher education board; Keiser is a SARA member. Keiser was not on the recognized list on September 25, 2026.
A preceptor who says yes does not open a North Dakota placement on its own: the program's Board recognition and semester filing come first.
Nursing in North Dakota: compacts, practice and places to train
The Nurse Licensure Compact has been live in North Dakota since January 19, 2018. The state signed the APRN Compact in March 2021 too, but that pact sits idle until seven states join, and five had by 2026. AANP places North Dakota in its full practice group. Research found no state program that rewards preceptors.
NP training here clusters around a few systems: Sanford Health in Fargo and Bismarck, Essentia Health-Fargo, Altru Health System in Grand Forks, Minot's Trinity Health, and Bismarck's CHI St. Alexius Health, part of CommonSpirit. These are examples only, not Keiser sites. The Fargo and Grand Forks metros spill into Minnesota, a state on both Keiser lists, so crossing into Minnesota solves nothing for an FNP student.
Paths that may still fit, pending Keiser's answer
The RN to BSN is the likeliest opening. NDBON's guidance speaks to programs leading to licensure and is silent on post-licensure bachelor's degrees, and Keiser's RN to BSN admits nurses licensed where they live. Its one clinical course, NUR4636, runs in a setting you pick and the University Department Chair approves.
Because Keiser's post-master's DNP ends in a degree rather than a license, the recognition rule may not reach it, but the FAQ heading names the DNP too. Put both questions to the Graduate School in writing and keep the reply.

Does Keiser admit FNP students who live in North Dakota?
Keiser's own sources point in different directions. The November 2025 FNP disclosure lists North Dakota as meeting educational requirements, while the Graduate School FAQ lists it among MSN/FNP/DNP restrictions. Ask the Graduate School for a written answer about your address and treat that reply as the one that counts.
Is Keiser on NDBON's list of recognized distance programs?
It was not on September 25, 2026, when the list was checked. Recognition is how an out-of-state school earns permission to place students in North Dakota facilities, so an FNP practicum here depends on Keiser securing it. Ask the Graduate School whether an application is underway.
Would a Minnesota clinic inside the Fargo or Grand Forks metro work instead?
That move does not help with Keiser's lists. Minnesota is marked as not meeting requirements on the FNP disclosure and also sits on the Graduate School FAQ's restriction list. Keiser asks for a license in whichever state hosts your clinicals, so any cross-border plan needs Keiser's sign-off first.
What license information does North Dakota collect for students in clinical rotations?
A recognized program's semester report records the North Dakota or compact license each student holds, plus licenses for preceptors and faculty. Keiser, for its part, wants an active Florida RN license and a license for the state hosting your clinicals.
Does the RN to BSN face the same North Dakota barrier?
It may not. NDBON's recognition guidance addresses programs leading to licensure and is silent on post-licensure bachelor's degrees. Confirm with Keiser before enrolling.
