Alaska lands on the does-not-meet side of Keiser's November 2025 FNP licensure disclosure, with the WHNP disclosure matching it, although the Graduate School FAQ never names Alaska as restricted. Where Alaska falls on Keiser's state lists
Keiser's two sources pull in different directions here. The licensure disclosure dated November 2025 files Alaska under does not meet for the FNP. The Graduate School FAQ, answering which states currently restrict the MSN, FNP and DNP, simply leaves Alaska out.
Since the disclosure addresses licensure head-on, let it steer you until Keiser says otherwise in writing. Separately, Keiser expects anyone applying from outside Florida to bring a written statement from the home state confirming that rotations and later NP licensure are allowed, and its policy manual cautions that hours earned beyond Florida may not count toward licensure everywhere. Keiser's out-of-state FNP rules go further.
Alaska's APRN preceptorship registration
Alaska's approval step lands on you personally instead of on Keiser. Regulation 12 AAC 44.460 has anyone completing clinical practice for an APRN course from a school outside Alaska register with the Board of Nursing, and the Board's FAQ tells APRN students plainly that a preceptorship application is required. The form is the APRN Preceptorship Registration, number 08-4253, and its fee is nonrefundable.
What goes into the registration
- Proof of an RN license in good standing, whether Alaska-issued or from another state
- Evidence of current APRN enrollment
- A copy of the four-way preceptorship agreement among school, facility, student and preceptor
- An APRN or physician preceptor working in a focus close to yours, with an active, unencumbered license or practice privilege
Expect to renew at most once: each registration is good for a year, or for the length of the preceptorship if that is shorter. Faculty from outside programs need an Alaska RN license only past a threshold, namely more than 20 working days per licensing period spent grading Alaska clinical work plus any other nursing education or consultation in the state.
Licensing climate and care settings across Alaska
Alaska sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact. The Board's compact page describes two joining bills from the 2025-2026 session, HB 131 and SB 124, as not yet passed, so nursing work in the state runs on an Alaska-issued license for now. On AANP's map, Alaska is a full practice state.
Anchorage dwarfs the other population centers, with Fairbanks next and the Juneau area after that. Anchorage offers a tribal system, the Alaska Native Medical Center, beside HCA's Alaska Regional Hospital and Providence Alaska Medical Center, whose parent runs more Alaska hospitals than any other operator. Palmer is home to Mat-Su Regional, and Tanana Valley Clinic and Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, both under Foundation Health Partners, serve the interior. These names map where care happens and imply no Keiser agreement. No Alaska preceptor incentive program surfaced in research.
Routes that may still suit an Alaska nurse
For distance RN-to-BS students, Alaska's Board asks only that the program hold national accreditation and approval in its own state, and that the student's RN license be current and unencumbered, issued by any U.S. state or territory. Keiser's online RN to BSN admits nurses holding an RN license in their home state, and its 45 clinical hours in NUR4636 take place in a setting you choose, with Keiser's approval. The post-master's DNP does not end in licensure. Eligibility for either is Keiser's decision, so ask before applying.

Is Keiser's online FNP open to Alaska residents?
The November 2025 FNP disclosure says the program does not meet Alaska's educational requirements for licensure, and the WHNP disclosure says so too. The Graduate School FAQ does not list Alaska among its restrictions, so the two sources conflict. A written answer from Keiser's Graduate School should come before any application.
Do I register with Alaska's Board before logging APRN clinical hours?
Yes, when your APRN program is based outside Alaska. You submit form 08-4253 with its fee, an RN license in good standing, proof that you are enrolled and a copy of the preceptorship agreement. Each registration lasts up to 12 months and may be renewed once.
Does a multistate license let me train in Alaska?
No. Compact privileges stop at Alaska's border because the state is not a Nurse Licensure Compact member, so a Florida multistate license gives no right to practice there. Keiser wants FNP and WHNP students licensed in the state where their clinicals happen, which in Alaska means an Alaska RN license, plus an active Florida RN license.
Are there incentives for Alaska preceptors?
Research for this page found no Alaska preceptor incentive program. Keiser describes its preceptors as volunteers and lists no preceptor payment, so a good match depends on a clinician who enjoys teaching and whose practice lines up with your Keiser course.
